- APS5 hourly rate contract, 12-months with possibility of extension

About the Department
Our client is an agency responsible for protecting Australia's natural resources. They focus on developing and implementing policies and programs that ensure Australia's agricultural, fisheries, food and forestry industries remained competitive, profitable and sustainable.
About the Role
The role will involve providing molecular diagnostics at the department's Sydney Regional Office laboratory in Mascot, under the general direction of the Senior Molecular Biologist. Duties include conducting various molecular tests and procedures on samples submitted to the laboratory from imported goods at the border.
Key Duties
- Collaborating effectively with laboratory staff to ensure the timely delivery of diagnostic activities, quality controls, and technical support.
- Conducting a variety of molecular procedures and tests on samples from imported goods at the border.
- Assisting with internal stakeholder engagement to resolve complex molecular diagnostic issues that support biosecurity decisions for imported plant products.
- Contributing to the implementation of national strategic initiatives within the section.
- Reporting, recording, and analysing diagnostic results, verifying data, preparing formal reports, and providing technical input for work instructions, guidelines, and requests for operational policy advice.
- Adhering to WHS requirements in the laboratory and actively contributing to the development of safety controls.

- Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with team members and stakeholders, promoting innovation and constructive communication.
The successful candidate will have experience in delivering molecular diagnostics using both conventional and emerging technologies, along with expertise in troubleshooting and transferring skills to technical staff. Additionally, the candidate will have experience with a variety of molecular diagnostic technologies and a proven ability to accurately report diagnostic data.
