The Northern Territory Geological Survey (NTGS) provides unique opportunities to work on diverse and challenging multi-scale geoscientific projects across a wide variety of geological terranes. The team has a strong focus on supporting minerals and energy resources exploration, by undertaking a range of projects to build knowledge of the geology and resource potential of the Northern Territory.

Currently, there are two positions available in the Basin Geoscience team in Darwin, a 3 year fixed-term Senior Geologist (P3) and an ongoing Project Geologist (P2). Applicants will be assessed against each professional level and appointments will be made based on qualifications, experience and cultural fit.

Both roles will form a small team to understand the energy resource potential and geological storage capacity of the Territory’s vast and underexplored onshore basins.

As a member of the team you will work on targeted, effective and integrated energy systems studies to support the growing gas sector and emerging energy systems, such as H2, He, CCS, and geothermal. You will also have the rare opportunity to deliver fundamental geoscientific studies to assist with identifying and securing the energy resource future for the Northern Territory.

As the Senior Geologist (P3) your key responsibilities will be to lead, develop and deliver multidisciplinary geoscience projects, build effective team capabilities and contribute technical expertise to a range of programmes that will transform knowledge of the geological framework and energy potential of the Territory’s onshore basins.

As a Project Geologist (P2) your key responsibilities will be to contribute technical expertise to a range of programmes that will transform knowledge of the geological framework and energy potential of the Territory’s onshore basins.

In addition to the above, you will be required to maintain currency of knowledge and awareness of modern and emerging geoscientific concepts and technologies, as well as building strong working relationships and collaborative networks with your peers and external stakeholders.

Located in Darwin you will form part of a passionate and talented Basin Geoscience team and be rewarded with a competitive remuneration package inclusive of; 11.5% superannuation, 6 weeks recreational and 3 weeks personal leave, 17.5% annual leave loading and the opportunity to work on fundamental geoscientific studies that will assist with identifying and securing the economic future for the Northern Territory.
