NEDC is funded by the Australian Government Department of Health and administered by The Butterfly Foundation (Butterfly). NEDC has a small and vibrant team, with offices in Sydney and Melbourne.

The primary purpose of the role of Research and Evaluation Lead is to uphold and drive NEDC’s commitment to academic rigour and use of research evidence, through coordination of research and evaluation activities and research translation. The Research and Evaluation Lead is responsible for overseeing the implementation of the Evaluation Framework for the National Eating Disorders Strategy 2023-2033 and supports the delivery of other NEDC projects through: leading consultations; synthesising, analysing and interpreting research data; and advising on and supporting the evaluation of projects to ensure NEDC activities and outcomes are measured and informed by contemporary best practice evidence and emerging perspectives.

The Research Lead works closely with the NEDC project leads and teams to deliver projects on time within budget and within scope. This position reports to a member of the NEDC senior leadership team. This role offers a flexible work arrangement, allowing for a combination of in-office and remote work to accommodate work-life balance and productivity needs.

Qualifications, Skills and Knowledge

To be successful in this position, the applicant will demonstrate the essential qualifications, skills and knowledge listed below. In addition, the desirable skills, knowledge and behaviours listed will be beneficial to success in this position.

Essential

  • Tertiary qualifications in social, behavioural or biological sciences or equivalent work skills/experience demonstrating capacity
  • High level research and evaluation skills with capacity to apply these flexibly across NEDC projects, including skills in field work as well as data analysis and synthesis. This includes experience in developing and analysing surveys with both quantitative and qualitative components and facilitating and analysing focus groups.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and experience in making information accessible to a range of audiences
  • Experience in preparing high quality reports for a range of government, academic and community audiences
  • Experience and skills in project coordination in a research, service delivery or community development context and the ability to meet project objectives in line with activity plans and budgets
  • Understanding of and experience working with research ethics,
  • Commitment to the principles of evidence-based practice and their application in a health context
  • Excellent organisational capacity, including time management skills, high level of accuracy, attention to detail and proven ability to follow tasks through to completion
  • Competent-to-advanced use of computer software (MS Office, videoconferencing, collaboration tools, research software).
  • Knowledge of health and/or mental health and/or eating disorders.
