About the Role
The Research Associate will contribute to the research efforts of the Future Industries Institute, in particular will undertake research on the ARC Future Fellowship project titled “Organic Bionics: Soft Materials to Solve Hard Problems in Neuroengineering”.
The aim of this Fellowship is to improve electronic communication with nerve cells using soft organic conductors. The Research Associate will explore the development of new materials and device architectures to maximise electronic coupling with co-cultured nerve cells under optical stimulation. This will involve developing new device fabrication strategies, and performing a series of steady state and transient optical and electrical measurements to probe the structure-property relationships that drive coupling with nerve cells from organic conductors.

- Prepare or contribute to the preparation of refereed journal publications, conference and seminar papers

Essential Skills and Experience
- A PhD qualification (or recent submission awaiting assessment) in an area of physical or chemical sciences or engineering
- Evidence of high-quality research outputs relative to career opportunity, which are published and/or presented in journals or conferences with a high reputation in their field
- A proven ability to optimise materials and fabricate solution-processed optoelectronic devices (e.g. sensors, photovoltaic cells, LEDs etc)
- A proven ability to characterise optoelectronic devices using a range of steady state and transient techniques (e.g. UV-vis, photoluminescence, mobility/lifetime measurements, EIS etc)
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a research team
