What You'll be Doing
A Senior Research Sonographer will be responsible for:
- Establishing and managing the SWS Obstetric Research Unit Ultrasound Imaging Centre within SWSLHD.
- Facilitating the provision of a research ultrasound service that operates at recognised levels of clinical best practice and facilitates clinical management of Obstetric and Gynaecological patients within the district.
- Promoting clinical research in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, specifically but not exclusively in relation to obstetric and gynaecological imaging.
- Assisting with the dissemination of research findings in appropriate forums through publication and presentation at national and international research conferences.
Where You'll Be Working
Liverpool Hospital, founded in 1813, is the major health service for south-western Sydney, providing services to the local government area of Liverpool City Council as well as district services to residents and visitors in the area. It also provides a range of state-wide services in areas such as critical care and trauma, neonatal intensive care and brain injury rehabilitation.
The Hospital provides a health service of international standing, with 23 operating theatres, capacity for 877 beds, diagnostic and imaging services, emergency and trauma care, maternity, paediatric, cancer care, mental health, ambulatory care, allied health and medical and surgical services from birth to aged care.
Liverpool Hospital is currently undergoing a major redevelopment. The $790 million Liverpool Health and Academic Precinct (LHAP) project will provide enhanced facilities and an increased capacity to meet future significant population growth for South Western Sydney.
Liverpool Hospital is a principal referral and teaching Hospital of the UNSW Sydney and the Western Sydney University and also welcome students from over 20 universities and colleges.
Located in the heart of Liverpool City, the hospital is close to public transport, shopping centres and eateries.

- Sonographer qualification with relevant work experience and current accreditation with Radiation Control Licence (NSW EPA), and a PhD in an aspect of obstetric and/or gynaecological imaging. Proficient in all aspects of ultrasound imaging.
- Demonstrated experience working within a complex environment with the ability to demonstrate operational and planning skills and prioritise tasks to meet deadlines, and implement project plans.
- Experience in leading a dynamic team of sonographers and sonologists in clinical imaging and ability to work independently and with a large array of internal and external stakeholders.
- Demonstrated computer literacy with basic knowledge and understanding of statistical analysis / tools and be able to support junior researchers in their work.
- Demonstrated analytical, negotiation and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to engage clinicians, and experience in managing other sonographers.
- Demonstrated high level of writing skills including experience in writing reports and presenting findings of data analysis.
- Applicants must possess an Australian C-Class driver's license (including P1 or P2). Those who hold a C class license (P1 or P2 included) from a state other than NSW must obtain a NSW C class (P1 or P2 included) license within three months of appointment. Learner's licenses are not permitted.
