Operating in Australia for over 25 years, our client stands as the global leader in producing the natural insecticide active ingredient, Pyrethrin, derived from Australian grown pyrethrum daisies. They are renowned for their success, innovation, positive work culture and an environmentally conscious approach to both agribusiness and manufacturing.

Spanning operations in Tasmania and the rural regions of Central Victoria, our client has pioneered the cultivation of the pyrethrum daisy since its establishment in 1996. Managing thousands of hectares dedicated to producing top-quality products, they are currently on the lookout for a Research Officer to join their dynamic team in Ulverstone, TAS.
  
Your Role
As a Research Officer, you'll be part of an expanding team responsible for developing and implementing trial and breeding plans, analysing data, writing reports, and participating in extension work. The in-house research program covers pyrethrum crop production, from plant breeding and seed production to product testing and new technology implementation.

This hands-on role involves working closely with the R&D and agronomy teams and pyrethrum farmers, ensuring clear and effective communication with management.

In addition to these tasks, your duties will include:

  • Applying trial treatments and maintaining trial sites
  • Collecting and analysing data from field and glasshouse trials
  • Assisting with trial establishment and planning development
  • Managing and monitoring trial/breeding plans
  • Conducting research, including data collection and staff management
  • Ensuring accurate data and plant records
  • Writing technical reports and communicating findings to agronomists and farmers

About You
We seek an individual with exceptional interpersonal skills who thrives in a tight-knit team environment. Reliability, adaptability, and a commitment to continuous technical skill development are essential. The Research Officer will support our client’s pyrethrum breeding program by managing field trials, including planting, spraying, weeding, plant propagation, and harvesting. Attention to detail is crucial for data collection, collation, and organisation.

To be considered for the role, it is important that you can meet the following criteria:

  • Experience in agriculture, including fieldwork and data analysis
  • Degree in Agricultural Science, Horticulture, or Life Science (desirable)
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Proficiency in MS Office
  • ChemCert (can be attained post-recruitment)
  • Ability to manage trials, write reports, and handle data accurately
  • Willingness to learn and follow protocols
  • Physical fitness and enjoyment of outdoor work
  • Driver’s licence (essential)

Please note this is a full-time, permanent position. Not suitable for Working Holiday Visa workers - Australian Citizenship or Permanent Residency required.
