Community First Development is a First Nations’ community development and research organisation that creates positive change in and with First Nations’ communities. We undertake social and economic development, and research and evaluation projects in partnership with First Nations’ communities, businesses and people. Communities have control; they name the priorities and choose the design, assets, capabilities and approach to achieve their vision. We provide tailored support through community partners, skilled staff, trained volunteers, supporters and service providers.

At Community First Development, ‘research success’ is research that is requested, led and delivered by First Nations’ people and communities. It is undertaken through deep listening and strives to achieve the outcomes that communities have set out to achieve.

The Impact and Research Manager designs and manages research projects, communications and engagements, and works in partnership with community development staff and communities to deliver on community priorities and influence policy and systems that impact First Nations’ people. The Impact and Research Manager builds strong relationships in the research sector, developing and maintaining partnerships, relationships and financial support for research activities.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead research activities across the organisation including the design and management of research and evaluation projects, events and forums, collaborating internally and with external providers.
  • Develop and deliver an annual calendar of publications, including digital and multimedia content, to communicate and promote research findings.
  • Provide guidance and support in the development of learning and development to strengthen research, evaluation and community development practice within the organisation.
  • Protect the brand integrity and credibility of the organisation’s research.
  • Develop strong relationships and partnerships in the research sector to grow research funding and research activities with communities and community development team members.
  • Adhere to all workplace policies, including Workplace Health and Safety.

CORE CRITERIA

  • Strong project management skills, including the ability to meet deadlines, using initiative and flexibility when faced with challenges or opportunities.
  • Persuasive writing and editorial skills combined with a strong understanding of participatory action research and evaluation.
  • Proven emotional intelligence and communication skills in leading and managing people, mentoring and teams.
  • A demonstrated relationship and partnership development approach to secure funding and deliver programs.
  • Proven ability to work in partnership with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, stakeholders and communities.
  • IT skills, including the ability to use Microsoft Office programs and data systems.

A minimum of five years of experience in a similar research role and a formal qualification; or equivalent combination of relevant experience and education.
