The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) lead the sustainable development of Western Australia’s regions and agriculture, aquaculture, food and fisheries sectors. The opportunity

There is currently one (1) full time fixed-term, position available for immediate filling.

This exciting opportunity is now available to join our Farming Systems Innovation directorate. We are seeking candidates that are enthusiastic, self-motivated and have demonstrated experience in agricultural climate research.

As a Research Scientist you will apply your knowledge of current, seasonal, and future climate to inform government, industry, and grower strategic and seasonal decisions. You will collaborate with agricultural stakeholders on Western Australia agricultural needs, as well as State and Commonwealth agencies. Working with a wide range of data types, from online weather monitoring to spatial data sets, and providing leadership and support in the development of modelling domains and data needs for DPIRD’s meteorological and climate change research.

We are looking for individuals with:

  • Bachelor or postgraduate degree in Agricultural Science, Science, or an approved equivalent.
  • Demonstrated experience in scientific research and demonstrated knowledge of agri-food industry sustainable production systems.
  • Well-developed, conceptual and analytical skills including the ability to provide innovative solutions to complex and challenging issues and problems in the area of climate change and agriculture.

Am I eligible to apply?
