Following the retirement of Professor Paul Greenfield as Vice-Chancellor of The University of Queensland and Go8 Chair,

 

The Group of Eight has announced that Professor Fred Hilmer  will chair the Group of Eight in 2012 and 2013 following the retirement of Professor Paul Greenfield as Vice-Chancellor of The University of Queensland and Go8 Chair.

 

Professor Hilmer was appointed President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of New South Wales in June 2006. Prior to this position, he was CEO of John Fairfax Holdings Limited from 1998 - 2005.

Before joining Fairfax he was Dean and Director of the Australian Graduate School of Management (AGSM) in the University of New South Wales and a director of McKinsey & Company.

 

Professor Hilmer holds a degree in law from the University of Sydney, an LLM from the University of Pennsylvania, and a Master of Business Administration degree from the Wharton School of Finance.

 

Professor Ed Byrne AO, Vice-Chancellor of Monash University, will be Deputy Chair with special responsibilities for relations with Universities Australia.
