2011 NHMRC Australia Fellowships awarded
Six world-class researchers have been recognised with the presentation of the 2011 NHMRC Australia Fellowships.
The National Health and Medical Research Council Australia Fellowships are awarded to outstanding health and medical researchers, who have leading international status in their field.
Four of the researchers will be able to continue their essential research in Australia, and two researchers have been attracted to Australia from the United States.
The researchers will each receive $4 million over five years, to carry out their research in Australian universities and research institutes.
The Australia Fellows recipients and their areas of research are:
- Professor John Quackenbush, Dana-Faber Cancer Institute/University of Queensland, Genomics of Ovarian Cancer
- Professor Ashley Bush, University of Melbourne, Alzheimer’s Disease
- Professor Geoffrey Hill, Queensland Institute of Medical Research, Leukaemia
- Professor Edward Holmes, The Pennsylvania State University/ University of Sydney, Emerging Infectious Diseases
- Professor Jamie Rossjohn, Monash University, Immunology
- Professor Jane Visvader, Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research, Cancer
